Not until you reach mile 21, and then you start climbing into a little bridge, that is not by any means hard on a regular day, but feels monstrous after you’ve been running for 21 plus miles. Due to its excellent race organization and fast course, the California International Marathon has always been a favorite event for first time marathoners, fitness runners, and especially for runners seeking a PR, a Boston Marathon or Olympic Marathon Trials qualifying standard. They call mile 20 "The Wall" but it's not that bad. The goal is to stay easy and relaxed as you make your way through 18 and continuing with the rolling hills. I say gently because as you go up, you go down equally, and if you're strong, you'll still feel good through at least mile 16, which is when you reach a longer hill and a noticeable climb.
